Description

The natural drinking water of Stelpe is taken from the environmentally pure Stelpe (Nizere) spring located in Bauska region Stelpe parish. This sulfur spring has an ancient history. It’s well known with its healthy and healing waters all over the country. Already in 1930s people knew about the curative traits of the underground sulfate water. In 30th July 2007 the Latvia Food and Veterinary service issued unlimited permission to take natural mineral water from the drill “Stelpe-2”, Nr. 16786”.

There are three springs of mineral water in Bauskas region - Ozolaine (Kulsenu) sulfur spring which is protected by state, Barbele sulfur spring and Stelpe (Nizeres) sulfur spring, the object under protection of local meaning. The mineral composition of mineral water is approximately similar in Bauska region and falls within curative sulfate – carbonate mineral water with small level of mineralization.

The springs are situated in triangle with 10-12-15 km long edges. In the middle of triangle there is a rather virgin land which could be a perfect place for recreation and even more this zone is only 55 - 70 km form Riga. The most famous sulfur spring in Latvia is Barbele sulfur spring. In Latvia the first well-house was built near this spring already in 16th century. In those days the spring had a 2 meters high fountain and it was considered to be one of the strongest springs. The well-house kept its position up to the World War II. All three springs mentioned above is the combining – middle – link between Linkeni resort (Lithuania, Birzi) and Baldone resort spreading till Kemeri.
